ENTRY RULES

Recognition and encouragement of excellence in automotive journalism are the goals of the Texas Auto Writers Association’s annual Excellence in Craft Competition.

Eligible entries for the 2018 competition include automotive-related content that has been published or has an on-air date from Sept. 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2018.  All entries must be in English.

ENTRY DEADLINES are in two stages. The main deadline is midnight Aug. 17, 2018 for entries with a publication or on-air date from Sept. 1, 2017 to Aug. 17, 2018. The final deadline is midnight Aug. 31, 2018 for entries with a publication or on-air date from Aug. 18, 2018 to Aug. 31, 2018.

Winning entries will be announced Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the State Fair of Texas Auto Show Media Day luncheon.

The competition is open to TAWA members in good standing. An eligibility exception applies to the Texas Truck Invitational Writing categories, in which non-TAWA members are invited to participate.

EICC UPDATES:

  1. A new Video category has been added to the competition.

  2. The Texas Truck Invitational and Public Relations/Marketing Press Kits categories introduced last year will continue.

  3. Newspaper/Other Media and Magazine/Other Media Writing categories have been created using body-copy length as part of the criteria to simplify the categorization of varying media types.

  4. Mail-in entries are no longer accepted.

  5. The Spanish Writing category has been deleted.

  6. A slight entry-fee increase has been made to help cover competition costs.

TEXAS TRUCK INVITATIONAL

This competition invites TAWA members, along with non-members worldwide, to enter their works in exclusive truck-writing categories. A range of truck-related writing topics are eligible for entry, which cover light- and medium-duty passenger and commercial trucks/pickups – Classes 1-6 (up to 26,000 pounds GVWR) -- vans, chassis cabs, SUVs and CUVs.

Articles on the aforementioned topics are judged in Newspaper/Other Media and Magazine/Other Media categories.

Along with traditional first-, second- and third-place awards, an overall award winner will be chosen from first-place winners of Newspaper/Other Media and Magazine/Other Media categories. The top awardee will receive a Katzkin leather interior, valued at $2,000.
